I’ve recently discovered that the company I am currently using to have my music available for purchase has more than doubled their yearly subscription per album. Unfortunately, I’m not making enough money to continue working with this company since their fee hike.

What does that mean for me? I will have to do some research to figure out which company now suits my needs the best and make sure that I’m getting the best deal possible. I’ve been looking around today to find some distributors, with some luck as well. I’ve emailed some companies to confirm their policies and procedures; hopefully I’ll hear back from them soon!

What does that mean for you? Luckily, not much will change really. There will be a period of time that my music will not be available for purchase (this will be around the end of this year through the beginning of next year), but if all goes well, that period of time will only be a few months. The only major difference will be (and I’m still thinking this one over) that my first CD “When I Wait for You” will no longer be available after the switch, and my single, Road’s End, will be included in my next CD “Evolution.”

On the one hand, the situation is kind of annoying, but I am excited to have a new company to work with, and there may be some perks that comes with a new company, I’ll be sure to let you know!

Since it’s been so long since I updated last, I’m just going to pretend most of the past year didn’t happen and just talk about Nebraska.

This summer has been an exciting one at my first professional theater job at the Post Playhouse in northwest Nebraska. We’ve just opened our 3rd production: “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The others that I am performing in are “Hank Williams: Lost Highway” and “Forever Plaid.” All the shows have had great responses and the audiences are loving the performances. It’s cool to be working with others who are truly passionate about what they do, and who put forth amazing amounts of effort to make sure the shows are the best they can be.

In the music world, I’m awfully close to finishing my CD “Evolution” which is going well. I’ve had more help than usual with this one which has really been eye opening in getting new ideas and creating new sounds. Definitely couldn’t have done it without Nick, Taryn, Mandy, and the Shawnee Heights Choraliers. Thanks guys.

What’s coming up next? More writing and recording, plus (and this is really exciting for me) working with my brother, while we are in Nebraska, on writing a musical for young audiences. I think we’ll be starting that process soon!

I felt the urge to post something just as a reminder that life is good. I think it’s easy to forget sometimes in all the busy and little day-to-day stressors, and so every now and again it’s good to be reminded of that.

The music has been generous over the past few weeks, I’ve come up with some great things (imho) and I’m excited to get them recorded.

I guess the biggest news is that RENT is opening at Washburn University this weekend, and I am thrilled to be playing the part of Mark Cohen. It’s been tons of fun working with everyone; it will be a great show, so if you have the chance, please join us in experiencing the wonderful story.

Thanks guys,

Dan Denton

P.S. A very happy congratulations to those who won the contest from last month, I hope you are enjoying the music!

Dan Denton is an aspiring musician currently living in Topeka, Kansas. While very original, his music takes on aspects of popular music with influences of jazz, rock, and other genres as well. Although his fan base is close to home, he always hopes to be gaining new listeners everyday.

Dan started writing music as a sophomore in High School with the inspiration and encouragement of his friends, family, and teachers. Even though he really didn’t know where to begin when it came to writing music, he still tried to create something that would be listener worthy. After many songs, mistakes, and performances, Dan finally had songs that he was proud of. With these songs he created his demo CD “For You.”

After finishing his first demo CD, the writing process continued. His music began to take a certain form, yet still somewhat unrefined. More trial and error ensued as he wrote more and more music. Ideas started to form with the songs as Dan delved deeper into music creation; he took courses and read books about writing music and started to record his music from home. Almost a year after the demo was finished, Dan released his first home recorded CD, “When I Wait For You.”

After having worked on his CD for some time, Dan started to work more on his performance skills. He went to college for a semester with a major in vocal performance. During this time he learned many new techniques and ideas for performance, and also started writing music again. With inspiration coming from all different angles and aspects of life, he found it somewhat easier to come up with new ideas for his music. He also realized that his true passion was in performing his own music, being able to tell a story that he lived or created. He finished his semester of college and went back home and started a search for schools with a program that would help him collect his thoughts and present them in his music.

Now back at home, Dan has had the opportunity to devote his time to writing music. He just recently released his newest CD “Remember Me, Remember You” which he is very proud of.

Dan hopes to continue to learn and grow as a musician and be able to tell more and more people his story through music.

In Dan’s own words…

“Why I write music……………

One day in the middle of summer my brother and I were driving north on a street near our home while we were listening to John Mayer’s “Room For Squares.” I remember taking in the music, hearing it, enjoying, and singing along with what I knew.

After that instance, I didn’t listen to that CD for a long time, maybe several months. But when I decided to put the CD in my player again, I remembered that specific moment in time during summer, on that same street, with my brother, driving north.

I couldn’t tell you all of the other times this has happened to me. I really enjoy those times when I can recall a specific moment because the music reminded me of it. Music really touches us in ways we may not understand until much later on. That is extremely important to me.

I realized that I want to do those things for other people through my music. I want others to listen to my music and recall a specific moment in time that was of significance to them. If I can do that, I feel that I have accomplished something important.”

-Dan Denton

I’m also getting ready to release my very first single, which is very exciting. Extra exciting is to see how you like it.

Enough of all that.

I had a wonderful birthday yesterday (21!), thanks to everyone who was a part of that; especially Sydney, Hannah, Nick and Becky.

Currently stuck at home, the cause of an ice/snow storm. Maybe some neat pictures will come from this…

That’s all for now!

A wonderful holiday season to you.
